Animal Studies Professor Juan F. Medrano Interviewed about RNA-Sequencing of Milk Cells
Recently Professor Juan F. Medrano was interviewed about his team's exciting RNA-Seq milk cell transcriptome project. He and his team at the Department of Animal Science are working to improve oligosaccharides in bovine milk.
This video interview, hosted on CLC Bio's streaming video website, precludes a paper in “Mammalian Genome” that demonstrates how analyzing the milk cell transcriptome using RNA-Seq is an efficient and cost effective method to identify SNPs in the transcribed regions. This research will provide a valuable collection of more than 30,000 SNPs located in coding regions of genes expressed during lactation that can be used for gene variation analysis and to examine the effect of genetic associations on milk-related traits in cattle.
